Our partner GAIA successfully organised the “International Summer Course on Energy Communities: Empowerment through Sustainable Energy“, a two-day event in Bilbao and Gernika on July 4th and 5th 2024.
The main objectives of this course were to provide participants with a deep understanding of energy communities as an innovative model for sustainable energy generation and management as well as practical skills to design, implement and manage energy community projects:
- Participants learned about the key concepts of energy communities (definition, structure and operation).
- Energy community leaders from different parts of Europe shared their best practices and success stories. Participants visited the energy community of San Fidel TEK.
- The living lab approach and it’s fundamental role in energy innovation has been explored, as well as the importance of energy socialization and its impact on the community.
- Different tools and approaches to encourage citizen participation in the energy transition have been presented.
- Within the two days, all participants established connections with experts and professionals from around the world, fostering collaboration and the continuous exchange of knowledge.
